DIY Chipboard
I cut my own shapes on ugly cardstock and glue them together to make my own chipboard. I don't use chipboard that much so this works for me. For instance I used this yellow cardstock--cut the letters about 4-5 times glued them together and then embossed them white and added glitter....it doesn't take that long to make them and I love that I can customize my chipboard for anything I'm working on instead of having to work with what comes in packages. I use mod podge to glue them all together and it works great.

This post was my first penguin creation...and I was so excited to share it with everyone I uploaded it to clker.com...now I know better...lol. I have some other files on there that you might like, here is my profile. All of the files on there are free and can be downloaded in svg form.
Since Christmas is around the corner I thought it might be time to bundle this one up too. Download him here.

More ornaments
For some reason when you import this file to scal it says it contains embedded images and fonts and will not be displayed...just click okay and the ornaments should still show up.
NOTE: if you play around with the width of these ornaments on scal you can get different ornament shapes...very cool.

Vintage Frame
Download here
I did this sign with the frame...cut it five times and glued them all together to make it thick like chipboard then I embossed it 4 times...this gives it a very smooth porcelain like finish. I used modpodge to glue everything down.

Advent Calendar box file
Each box is about 1 in and 4 1/2 cm tall and 1 in and 4cm wide. The scut file is saved at these measurements if you want to download it instead of the svg file. I still have to decorate each of the boxes and find out how I'm going to put them on display....
Download the svg file here or the scut file here.

Bundled up Penguin
Isn't he the cutest? I hope you all like him! Download here
No eyes included...I figured you could all just cut 2 circles out from the default font that comes with scal. Remember you can separate this or any other file into more files by copying the parts you want to cut and pasting them on another inkscape file.

DIY Ornament
Foam ball
ribbon
Tulip glitter (Pink Jewel)
vintage button
zip dry glue
I've had the buttons and ribbon for a while so I am glad I was finally able to use them. I know it might be a little early for Christmas decorations at your house but over here we are getting into the spirit very early. We went to Macy's and saw a lovely tree in pink and lime green decorations and decided to do ours that way. I've been spray painting our old ornaments pink and green and they look great so far. My mom just gave me the foam balls and asked me to decorate them and this is what I came up with. I just love when my family comes to me for crafting ideas.

Prismacolor Pencils
So I've had my prismacolor pencils for a while now and a colorless blender pencil but didn't really know what to do with them. Now after watching some youtube videos and tutorials I think I got the hang of it so today I went to Michael's and bought the Mona Liza Odorless Paint Thinner but after reading the label warnings I got scared and decided not to use it. I then remembered someone said they used baby oil so I tried to find some around the house with no such luck...while looking for the baby oil I found this product called Blue Goo skin softener that I had bought a year ago at wal-mart and never used it...and wondered if it would do the trick and it sure did. Here are some images that I used with the Blue Goo and the prismacolor pencils. The only one used with Odorless Paint Thinner is the yellow present at the top right corner. I think you could probably use vaseline also. I didn't really use that much just barely dipped the corner of the blending stump.
This second picture is the result of my colorless blender and prismacolor pencils.

Paintbrush bday card
DragonArtz has amazing vector files and I fell in love w/ one of them. My dad is a painter/carpenter and I thought this paintbrush would be perfect for his birthday card. I love how it turned out, I couldn't really cut out all the small pieces but I still love it. Go check out the WEBSITE!!!.

Holiday Music Instruments
So I downloaded some dingbat fonts but found that when opened them in inkscape they were very hard to use, lots of bumps and dots everywhere. There was this one image that I thought was very cute but no matter what I did to it...it still looked weird to me so I gave up and made my own version from scratch. Download here

Don't forget the dingbats!
Dingbats are fonts for your computer but instead of letters you get pictures. There are a lot of free dingbat fonts out there that you can use with your Cricut and SCAL. You simply download the font you want, install it into your computer and it should show up on scal the next time you use it. One site I love to go to is Dafont.com another one is Abstractfonts.com
They have various fonts including
Christmas
Valentine
Animals/Bugs
Comics
Cartoons
Flourishes
The list goes on. Some dingbats you can just cut right away but with others you may have to tweak if they have layers. (Inkscape is great for this)
[I'm trying to get a camera...so when I do I'll be able to post tutorial videos for you]
